Scroll down to Contacts open it and clear the data cache.
Now do the same again but this time open Contact Storage and also clear the data cache.
This issue is related to an Android bug and affects many devices. It's related to apps that use the sync function.

Cluster name resource failed registeration in DNS

For clustering the Cluster resource name must have full access to the Virtual Cluster Names so when failover takes place DNS entries can be updated.

However if you used a underscore _ a big NO! NO! with NetBIOS and DNS names. Solution: wipe and start over.
If you used a dash -, an exceptable NetBIOS name, your still screwed and got this error. BUG in Windows 2008 R2. You can add the name manualy to the DNS, but it will not be automatic.

Following errors were recorded in event logs when it registrations fails:

Cluster network name resource 'SQL Network Name (VirutalClusterName)' failed registration of one or more associated DNS name(s) for the following reason:
DNS signature failed to verify.

Ensure that the network adapters associated with dependent IP address resources are configured with at least one accessible DNS server
In DNS Management (dnsmgmt.msc):

Find the VirtualClusterName that is failing to register.
Right-Click Properties.
Select Security Tab.
Click Add.
Click Object Types.
Check off "Computers"; uncheck other options selected.
Enter in the name of the cluster (a.k.a Cluster Name Object (CNO)).
Click Check Names; Verify that the entry has been found.
Click OK.
Give the CNO FULL Control over this record.
Click OK.

Open the redsnow latest version (I did it with redsnow 0.9.8b7b),Now point to the iPSW 4.3.5 , after pointing to the iPSW now click next.

In the next step , Uncheck “Install Cydia” and then check the option “Just tethered boot right now” . and then click next.

If you experience behavior when using WMI, such as application errors or scripts that used to work are no longer working, you may have a corrupted WMI repository. To fix a corrupted WMI repository, you have to reinstall WMI. Follow these steps:

Click Start, Run and type CMD
Type this command and press Enter:

net stop winmgmt

Using Windows Explorer, navigate to %systemroot%\system32\wbem directory and delete the Repository directory. By default, the repository folder is located in the C:\Windows\system32\wbem directory.
Switch to Command Prompt window, and type:

net start winmgmt

Re-registering the WMI components

The .DLL and .EXE files used by WMI are located in %windir%\system32\wbem. You might need to re-register all the .DLL and .EXE files in this directory. If you are running a 64-bit system you might also need to check for .DLLs and .EXE files in %windir%\sysWOW64\wbem.
To re-register the WMI components, run the following commands at the command prompt:

You can use CPQLOCFG.exe to do this. Add user with this the sample XML Scripts below.. For CPQLOCFG, you need to know the credentials for an existing Ilo user. You can do this from a remote machine.

You can download the utility from www.hp.com/servers/lights-out. select ILO and softwares and drivers. Download Hp lights-out configuration utility.

The syntax will be as below. You can read the ILO user credentials from a file to generate the command line while sending the script.

DSMOD foundation course 101

This is intended to show the principles for changing many AD objects' properties in one go. There are lots more clever things you could do with this - like a lot of command line stuff, the principles are very simple but can be strung together to very powerful end results with a bit of thought and a step-by-step logical approach.

Basically, DSMOD allows you to change many (not all) of the AD properties of an object, usually a user, computer or group. This tutorial discusses users specifically, but the principles extend to other objects.

It uses the full canononical name for the object ie "CN=Eliza Doolittle, OU=etc." but you don't need to worry about that. The way to use it in practice is by using dsquery to do a "search" (even if this is for only one object) and pipe the returned results to dsmod, where you change one or more properties of that object.

First try something with dsquery:

This should give you several results for everyone whose common name matches Chris* (* as wildcard as usual, note that this also matches zero characters so *Chris* would also return these same results even though there is nothing in front of the "Chris", but would also find "John Christopher" if he existed)

We can now find users who match certain criteria. Then we can pass the results straight into dsmod to modify the properties.

to be "555 etc" so, get the CN of this user, then change their telephone number to X. Simple. (By the way your Outlook web access users will love this - they can get at the internal directory securely, just by looking at the properties of a user in the Address Book, then call someone directly. You could claim you spent all weekend typing in these numbers and get the overtime as well, as long as your PHB does not read this on SFDC!) For these kinds of changes where there are lots of unique ones I would usually expect to be using some kind of source list and using excel (or whatever you prefer) to parse the bits together into commands, then copy and paste out to notepad (not even bothering to save as CSV, notepad is dumb enough to just take the results regardless). You can paste straight to a command line, but my general recommendation is always write these as batch files, this way they are easier to edit and re-use, and you can keep exact copies of what you have done as change-control records. This is really useful if you screw up and need to undo (ie overwrite) anything, like changing everyone's phone number to the same thing or something equally daft (I'm admitting nothing at this point!). At least you can see what has been done and know what to change back. You don't need a user name and password if you are running the command window with sufficient privileges. I tend to run the command window with my normal account so I include the admin account details in the command for simplicity. You need quotes around entries if they contain spaces (in the above example this is true for the OU "Building 2" and the telephone number entry. If this was HeadOffice and just the extension number, quotes not required. As far as I can tell, it is all case-INsensitive. Slightly more advanced example, doing many users at once, let's say to change user passwords to enable IT staff to set up profiles for them in a new domain during a weekend office move and migration:

This would change password of all users in Sales in New York to "ChangeThisNow!". Note: the dsquery will return matching objects anywhere in the OU you specify, or further down the OU structure. So, if you start from New York you will get everyone in New York - I would suggest you do it team by team (ish) to avoid changing things like IT staff or service accounts etc. Having done that you now have everyone that you want with a changed password. On Sunday night you would possibly want to use:

to force them all to change at next login. You might also want

Note the use of "-limit 300" - default limit is to return 100 results, useful when you are just doing the dsquery on it's own to make sure you have the syntax correct. If you miss this off it will do the first 100 and stop, so if you expect more results use this switch at a reasonable level (300, 1000, 100000?) To get useful help files you can just do the usual /? eg dsmod /? or dsmod user /? or dsquery computer /? I tend to redirect the output to text files for convenience (they are quite detailed). DSGET is also useful to get the properties in the first place (perhaps to use in Excel to parse a new batch file together), so use "dsquery | dsget " approach to find eg all SAM ID's for Sales, or all their email addresses or whatever. Summary of the most useful (I have found) user properties : pwd == user password mustchpwd == force change of password after next logon tel == telephone number samid == we know this is domain-unique so it's a good start point profile == path to profile * hmdir == path to home directory * hmdrv == drive letter for home directory fn == first name # ln == last name # office == Office location, building name, whatever makes sense in your organisation * The wilcard $username$ can be used to insert the SAM id for the -profile or -hmdir parameter. Note the $, rather than % as you would get in a DOS command using an environmental variable

# eg I will use dsget to do an export of samid, lastname and firstname, then in Excel strip the first initial of the first name and use it with surname to lookup this against the telephone list supplied by the Facilities / reception team which only has surname.initial. From there I can create the script to change the telephone number entries. What I would probably do in practice is change ALL New York user telephone numbers to "unknown", then change the ones my script can match perfectly, then we can do a query for all users whose telephone number is still "unknown" and do these by hand (eg where their first name Elizabeth is in the phone system as "B" for Beth, and for spelling errors etc.) Very frustrating thing to watch out for, the syntax and names for the properties in dsquery, dsget and dsmod are not identical, eg in dsquery there is no syntax to search for first name alone, you have to use a wildcard-based mask, but having found them you can't write directly back to the name, you have to write to first name, surname or display name as required. This is another reason to use batch files - when it doesn't work because the syntax is wrong you can more easily change it and re-run. Have fun (! ?), I would reckon the amount of time you spend learning this just for any one-off exercise of changing all the passwords or telephone numbers will pay for itself straight away. You then get to reap more rewards down the line for free!

I am assuming you know how to use ADB and Fastboot as well as some basic OS knowledge be it DOS, OSX, or Linux.

This will do the followings to your Nexus One:
1. Reset your system files to the original system files.
2. Reset your kernel/boot image to the original shipping boot image.
3. Reset your recovery to original recovery (if you wish).

This will not relock your Nexus One. Once you unlock your phone, you are stuck for now.

This is for those of you who decided to flash a few different ROMs and want to restart from scratch.

You may get the Original Shipping Image from HERE or thru Modaco HERE. [22607 build]

Step 1. Disable backup my settings under privacy settings.

Step 2. unzip the original shipping ROM and put it somewhere you can find.

Step 3. Plug in Nexus One with USB to computer (enable usb and debug modes)

Step 4. adb reboot bootloader (which will boot into the bootloader)

Step 5. Confirm fastboot connection fastboot devices

Step 6*. fastboot erase userdata

Step 7*. fastboot erase cache

*If step 6 and 7 does not work, and if you have Amon_RA's recovery installed, you can do a factory data wipe from there.
Alternately, you can also do a factory data wipe within Android. Settings => Privacy Settings => Factory Data Reset.

When we use robocopy '/XO' option from Windows to NFS, it is still copying everything.

This happens when the granularity of the date/time stamp of the two file systems is not the same. One file system might have a granularity of 1 second, the other of 2 seconds.

x:\Program Data\McAfee\Common Framework

For VSE 8.5i (running on Windows XP and earlier)
x:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\McAfee\Common Framework

For VSE 8.0i (running on Windows XP and earlier)
x:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Network Associates\Common Framework
Paste the file to portable media or network share that can be accessed by both computers.
Click Start, Run, type services.msc, and click OK.
Right-click McAfee Framework Service and select Stop.
Copy FrameworkManifest.xml to the Common Framework directory.
Right-click McAfee Framework Service and select Start.
Update the product.

Solution 2 - Delete FrameworkManifest.xml and reinstall the Common Management Agent (CMA)

It is necessary to delete FrameworkManifest.xml because it may not be removed or replaced when an uninstall/re-install is undertaken.
Step 1 - Allow VSE files and settings to be modified (VirusScan Enterprise 8.5i and higher only)

Click Start, Programs, McAfee, VirusScan Console.
Right-click Access Protection, then select Properties.
Select Common Standard Protection.
Select Prevent modification of McAfee files and settings and disable this option.
Click OK.

Step 2 - Delete FrameworkManifest.xml and reinstall CMA:

Limits on memory and address space vary by platform, operating system, and by whether the IMAGE_FILE_LARGE_ADDRESS_AWARE value of the LOADED_IMAGE structure and 4-gigabyte tuning (4GT) are in use. IMAGE_FILE_LARGE_ADDRESS_AWARE is set or cleared by using the /LARGEADDRESSAWARE linker option.

On a ProLiant server running Windows Server 2003 or Windows Server 2008, if a version of the HP NC-Series Broadcom 1GbE Multifunction Driver for Windows Server earlier than version 4.6.16.0 is installed and an attempt to upgrade the driver to a version later than version 4.6.16.0 is made, the following message is displayed and is written to the cpqsetup.log:

This will not occur if running a version of the driver later than version 4.6.16.0. This only occurs when running a driver earlier than version 4.6.16.0 and attempting to update the driver beyond version 4.6.16.0.

"After installing Windows 2000 (Datacenter Server or Advanced Server) or Windows 2003, system properties shows that only around 3.37 GB of physical memory (RAM) is available for application and system use, although 4 GB or more RAM modules have been installed, and BIOS can correctly identifies the full installed size of physical memory, which means that the motherboard and x86 or x64 CPU processor can support more than 4 GB of physical memory.

32-bit Windows operating system depends on PAE (Physical Address Extension) feature to use more than 4 GB of physical memory. On most Windows 2000 and Windows Server 2003 system, especially those run in NUMA mode on a NUMA-capable computer. PAE is disabled by default. PAE is enabled by default only if DEP (Data Protection Execution) is enabled on a computer that supports hardware-enabled DEP, or if the computer is configured for hot-add memory devices in memory ranges beyond 4 GB.
Thus, if PAE is not enabled in Windows 2000 and Windows Server 2003 (for example, if DEP is turned off by administrator), the system may not able to detect, identify and see more than 4GB memory, and will have to allocate slightly more than 3GB of memory for system and application only as some memory address space has to be reserved and mapped for system devices and peripherals.
To enable PAE in Windows Server 2003 and Windows 2000 (and Windows XP), append the /PAE switch to the end of the line of operating system in the Boot.ini file. To disable PAE, use the /NOPAE switch. The Boot.ini normally located in the root folder (i.e. C:\) with Read-Only and Hidden attributes, which are required to be removed before the file can be edited.

Error : "Corrupt XML file messages when you click on the VLAN tab of the network configuration utility plus missing VLAN parameter errors in the Windows event log. This might only occur if you have teamed two or more network interface cards. (HP calls each card a Miniport.):
- An error occurred due to invalid data in the XML file used by this application. The XML file has been corrupted and should be reinstalled from the installation media."

Solution: The solution is to rename the directory that the network configuration utility was originally installed in (normally C:\Program Files\HP\NCU), and then reinstall the network configuration utility. That forces it to install the new version of the XML file. Your existing network configuration will be lost."

Updated Solution:
1) Create 'VlanID' and 'VlanDefaultID' REG_DWORD 0x0 values
in 'HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Class\{4D36E972-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}\0008'

I then restarted the server and dissolved and re-created the team. This has solved the problems of the erroneous error messages concerning a corrupt XML file.

* The batch job runs as a non-interactive process.
* The batch job is configured to run under the context of an account that is not a member of the Administrators group.

In Windows Server 2003, the Users group does not have Read and Execute permissions to the command processor (Cmd.exe). By default, the Cmd.exe program has the following permissions settings:

* The Interactive implicit group and the Service implicit group have Read and Execute permissions.

Note On a member server, the TelnetClients group also has Read and Execute permissions. On a domain controller, the Batch implicit group also has Read and Execute permissions.
* The Administrators group and the System implicit group have Full Control permissions

Method 1
Grant the Cmd.exe program Read and Execute permissions for the user account that the batch job runs under. To do this, follow these steps:

1. Click Start, and then click Windows Explorer.
2. Locate and then right-click the Cmd.exe file. The Cmd.exe file is located in the %windir%\System32 folder.
3. Click Properties.
4. Click the Security tab.
5. Click Add.
6. In the Enter the object names to select box, type the user name that the batch job runs under, and then click OK two times.

Note When you add the user, the user is automatically granted Read and Execute permissions.
7. Click Yes when you are prompted to continue.

Method 2

This post documents how to automate this process, and how to simplify the re-issuing of commands should it be necessary to reboot or restart the router.

The process is called Telnet Scripting. To use it you need:
- a Telnet Scripting tool
- a file containing Telnet commands (that is, a script file)

Although you can use a normal telnet. You will have to type the commands all over again everytime the router restarts. This includes changing firewall settings, virtual server settings, etc. With a telnet scripting tool, you can do it with 2 clicks.

The Telnet Scripting tool that I use is TST10.EXE, written by Albert Yale. It can be downloaded from at http://users.telenet.be/tontonzen/gg/TST10.zip

Here's a trivial example of its use, a script to login to the DSL-G604T and display the help text:

The script assumes the default IP address of the router (192.168.1.1) and the default login password (admin).

If the script were stored in the file help.txt then the command to issue it (assuming it is in the same directory as TST10.EXE) would be:

tst10 /r:help.txt

Info on the script syntax and the parameters of TST10.EXE can be found by running the program.

If you like, you can also write a .bat file on your own to run the script so all you have to do is double click to execute the commands. That is what I did.

A real life example of where this is useful is given below. This provides a script to set the NAT session parameters for success (?) with P2P applications, by increasing the number of concurrent NAT sessions and setting appropriate timeout values to ensure 'stale' session data is discarded. Acknowledgement and thanks to a post by samPT in this forum for the values.

Save this in a file (say) nat_sessions.txt, edit the default IP address and password to match your installation. Run a command prompt, change to the directory with the script + program, and execute it with:
tst10 /r:nat_sessions.txt /m

Just to confirm that these commands have taken effect and that the values have been written to the specific files, change directory and type them out. Here's an example:
cd /proc/sys/net/ipv4/netfilter/
cat ip_conntrack_max

You can extend this Telnet Scripting technique to do as many things as your Linux knowledge and the embedded toolset in the DSL-G604T allows. Which means that you perhaps won't need to wait for new firmware releases and fixes. Clearly this won't cover everything, but I'm sure you get the idea...

Using Google Calendar, Thunderbird and Lighting to full effect

One of the best apps available on Windows is MS Outlook, as a complete suite of apps to organize your life, with Mail, to do lists and a calendar application, which allows for scheduling of meetings, and your time, which will communicate happily with your Windows Mobile or Smartphone Device. Allowing you to know what you are doing while both at your PC or away from it. However, being a commercial application, this can be quite a pricey solution, especially, if your are looking for these features to manage yourself, or maybe just a few others.
However it is possible to archive similar results using Windows, or Linux for free.
Being the owner of an Orange M600 Smartphone, and a Linux user, I spent a long time looking over the Internet, as the best way to get the information shared between my Desktop and my PDA phone. and although there are projects out there , SynCE springs to mind, they are not easy to setup.
So I thought i would look at a different way of resolving the issue.. As always, this is not the only way, its just my way.

How I managed it.

The key to my resolution is Google Calendar, which can be accessed easily enough, especially if you already have a gMail account. If however you don’t have a gMail account, you can create your self a Google Account here, which will give you access to the Calendar functionality. Its pretty self explanatory. Once this is setup, its time to look at your mail client, obviously you could just use google calendar, via the web browser in Windows or Linux, but it doesn’t display to well on a PDA.. Also the aim here, is to emulate some of the functionality of Outlook, which allows you to have access to multiple mail accounts in one location.

The Email Client

The software I use is Thunderbird, Its my preferred Mail client, as i use both POP and IMAP based mail accounts, this mail client doesn’t however come with any built in calendar function, which is a reason, so many people berate it, and state that “calendar functionality is required before this app can move forward”. One of Thunderbirds strengths however, is, like its cousin Firefox, it works on a plugin system. That is, people have written third party modules, which can be used to enhance the functionality of Thunderbird. And I use 2 of these pluginfrom has an old version, Try downloading Lightening from

Quite simply, Lightning provides a calendar interface for Thunderbird, its part of the Mozilla Sunbird project, and helps provide the Schedule interface which standalone Thunderbird is missing.

Setup The Plugins

The magic here, however is the Provider for Google Calendar plugin, which, unlike just adding the necessary links to Thunderbird, to access Google Calendard, not only provides read access, it provides write access as well..
Install both plugins, and restart Thunderbird, you will then be shown, a Calendar in the left pane, this calendar has 3 tabs Agenda, Todo and Calendars. To setup Google Calendar, click on the Calendar tab.
Click on the New Button, in the Calendar Tab, and you will be given a choice, you need to select, On the Network. Click on Next, there is an option for Google Calendar, select this.
In the Text bar under the Google Calendar you will need to enter the Link URL which allows you to write to your Account, you can find this, buy logging into the Google Calendar account you created earlier.

Create a new Calendar, or if you already have a celedar created, click on the down arrow next to the calendar. And click on Share this Calendar.
You will be taken to a new page, where you will need to click on Calendar Details on the top of this page.

Then Select the XML button, next to the Private Address, this will allow you the read/write access to the calendar, if you need read only access, or wish to share calendards with read only access, use the XML button next to the Public Tab.

When you click on the XML button a URL will be displayed (i’ve edited the whole strin below for security reasons) Copy this URL , and paste it into the Thunderbird Text box, then click on Next.

Give the Calendar a name which you will use in Thunderbird to identify this calendar, and choose a colour, this is the colour which will identify your Google Calendar, if you are using multiple calendars. Then CLick on Next and then Finish.
You will then see your calendar listed as available. you should now be able to add an event in either Thunderbird, or the wEb Interface, and both will update to show the events. You can set reminders, repeat events, and all the usual type of Schedule details.

Sync the PDA

The next step is to sync the Calendar with the PDA, this is done using the GMobileSync app for Windows Mobile or Smartphones. it requires .NET CF 2.0 which is available for download from the site, and provides not only read access to they Google Calendar, it also provides write access. This means as well as having PDA based access to your existing schedule, you can provide updates from your PDA to your calendar too. The application requires your login ID and password for the Google Calendar site. and works as far as i’m aware over both Wifi and GPRS networks, however i will confess, with UK prices as they are for Data over GPRS i’ve only tried Wifi. The Sync is a manual operation, and not automatic (yet)

Youtube email confirmation error

I figured out how to fix this. I was having this problem, too. I was logged into my YouTube account, but I couldn't subscribe to video feeds or forums. I always got the error, "You must confirm your email address to create a subscription."

Try this:
1) Go to your own user page. For example, mine is http://www.youtube.com/user/MuggsMcGinnis
2) In the "Connect with " (for example, Connect with
MuggsMcGinnis), select "Send Message" button.

When I did this, I got an error that the email address was invalid.
The address shown on the screen was "muggsmcginnis", not my correct email address. So, I changed that to the correct address and sent the message. I received the message in my email account:

Hi MuggsMcGinnis,

Please click here to confirm your email.

Once you confirm that this is your email address, you'll be able to
upload videos to YouTube.

Once I'd done that, the problem went away.
One of the odder aspects of this YouTube bug is that the system already had my correct email address. I used the option to reset my account password and it sent the confirmation email to my correct email address. Obviously, their account database could use some normalization"

When he tries to connect to a specific machine on LAN, rather than getting connected Windows xp gives the following remote desktop connection error - “The connection was ended because of network error”

Let’s see how can we fix this remote desktop connection error.

Fix:

The main cause behind this problems is some problem in the registry entries at the following path:

HKLM\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\TermServices\Parameters
Follow the procedure below to fix it.

1. Open Start >> Run and type regedit and press enter.

2. Navigate to the following path:

HKLM\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\TermServices\Parameters

3. Now delete registry keys named Certificate, X500 Certificate and X509 Certificate ID values. (These keys will get auto generated after system restart with system default values, which is actually needed)

4. Exit Registry editor and restart your computer.

5. Try to establish a remote desktop connection by typing mstsc at Run Prompt.

Note: Always back up the registry before making any changes that may damage your system configuration.

Update: If you have an iPod Touch with the latest 2.0 software you will need to downgrade your software from 2.0 to 1.14 before using this tutorial.

In my previous ZiPhone post, I was not as explicit with directions as my other jailbreak method. I am sorry. To make it up to you, here are DETAILED instructions for Jailbreaking your iPod Touch. For those of you curious, it takes up as much space as ONE song. So not a lot at all.

WARNING: If anything goes wrong, hold the home button and the power button until it turns off. Keep holding it until it shows the connect to iTunes image. Then try again. It should work the second time if the first doesn’t.

1. Restore your iPod to firmware 1.1.4

Plug in your iPod and run iTunes.
When your iPod shows up in iTunes, click the restore button
- This will erase everything on your iPod, but you can sync it later
Do not restore from a backup

2. Download ZiPhone

Download ZiPhone
Click on the downloaded file and let it install
If it doesn’t install, you need to download and install this .net microsoft file

3. Run ZiPhone

With your plugged in iPod and ZiPhone running, click Jailbreak (the second action)
Wait a minute, and your iPod will be jailbroken with installer on your home screen.

4. Get it Running

In installer, go to the Install tab, click all packages, and install BSD Subsystem
To get the January apps, go to the sources tab and click edit, and add http://ipodtouchmaster.com/files/repo.xml OR http://repo.applerepo.com
In the Install tab, go to iPhone 1.1.4 Applications and install iPhone 1.1.4 Apps
Add the source
In Installer, go to Install, All Packages, then install BossTool

Cause

This behavior is observed if:

You've relocated the Documents folder to a network or removable drive earlier, and the path is currently unreachable.

Resolution

For Case 1: See article Nothing happens when you click on a shell folder link in the Windows Vista Start menu to know how to fix the shell folder path manually.

For Case 2: Revert back the Documents folder to its original location, or relocate it to a folder which is at least one level deep from the Root folder (Example: D:\Documents, or D:\Users\Documents etc). To do so, follow these steps:

Create the destination folder first
Click the Start button
Right-click Documents, and choose Properties
Select the Location tab
Click Move and select the target folder
Click Apply

Change the display language for vista interfaces upon completion of installation of Windows Vista SP1 (Service Pack 1) Multilingual User Interface Packs (MUI) for 32-bit (x86) and 64-bit (x64) versions or windows vista language Interface Packs (LIPs).

How To change the display language for vista interfaces?

Go to Start Menu –> Control Panel.
Choose Clock –> Language –> Region option. In classic view, click on “Regional and Language Options” icon.
Click on “Change display language” under “Regional and Language Options“.In classic view, choose the “Keyboards and Languages” tab and then choose a display language from the drop down under “Display language” section. Note that the “Display language” section will be visible only on Windows Vista Ultimate and Enterprise editions that support Multilingual User Interface (MUI) Packs or only if windows Vista language Interface Packs (LIPs) are already installed.

The safe way to change your cache location

Connect your phone to your computer, and connect to ActiveSync.
Open the ActiveSync window, then click the Explore Device button.
Navigate to \Application Data\Opera 9.5.
Find the opera.ini file (If you don't have file extensions enabled, it should just show as "opera".)
Copy the file to your desktop.
Open the file in a text editor, such as Notepad. Immediately do a File>Save as and rename the file to something other than opera.ini. This is your backup, just in case.
Now open the original opera.ini file. Scroll down to the [User Prefs] section and insert the following line: Cache Directory4=\Storage Card\operacache\. (Note: "operacache" can be renamed to anything you want.) Save and close the file.
Copy the new file back to your device, into the same \Application Data\Opera 9.5.

The quick and dirty way

You can, if you want, do all this directly from your device. But we'll be doing so without making any backups, so be forewarned.

Using your favorite file explorer (Note: the stock Windows Mobile file explorer won't work here; I like Resco File Explorer), navigate to the \Application Data\Opera 9.5 folder.
Click on the "opera" file. When it asks which program you want to open the file, choose "Notes."
Scroll down to the [User Prefs] section and insert the following line: Cache Directory4=\Storage Card\operacache\. (Again, "operacache" can be renamed to anything you want.)
Click "OK" and you're done.

That's it. All the files collected by the browser will now take up room on your storage card, and not directly on your device.

But if you're willing to edit a few .ini files, here are a few ways to customize and improve Opera Mobile.Making a page down button, and other navigation settings

Probably the biggest complaint users have about Opera Mobile's default configuration is that pressing down on your navigation pad or scroll wheel doesn't cause the browser to scroll down an entire page. It just scrolls to the next link. While this is great if you plan to click on every link on a website, it's kind of annoying if you're just trying to read a news item.

What you need to do is edit the input.ini file, located on your device in the Application Data\Opera folder. The easiest way to edit it is probably to copy the file to your desktop and open it with Notepad or a similar text editor.

While you're at it, change "Up = Navigate up" to "Up = Page up"

Tweaking your cache settings and saving space

Browse cache lets Opera Mobile save copies of images, websites, and other data that you've obtained. Next time you visit those websites, the pages will load faster if their information is stored in your cache. But space is limited on mobile devices, so you have to decide whether you want quicker page loads or more free space. Here are some browser cache tweaks.

Change the size of your data cache:

Find the Opera.ini file in \Application Data\Opera
Copy it to your desktop to edit
Find the [Disk Cache] group
Change "Size=2000" to a larger or smaller size (measured in KB)

Move your data to a storage card:

Edit Opera.ini
Find the [User Prefs] group
Change "Oper Directory=\Application Data\Opera" to another directory, such as "\SD Card\Opera\" or "\Storage Card\Opera," depending on how your device names your storage card

The latest release version is Open Office 3.0.

In the new version: native Mac OS X compatibility, support for version 1.2 of the OpenDocument format, and compatibility with Microsoft's OOXML format.

The latter feature is particularly useful, given that Office 2007 saves .docx files by default - something that's confused many a hapless user as they tried to send stuff to people using older versions of the office suite.

Do check out msinfo32.exe. Virtually everything that you would want to know about the system configuration of a Windows machine will be revealed with this command. Msinfo32.exe is located under /Program Files/Common Files/Microsoft Shared/MSInfo (at least on our system). If you wish to dump the report to a file, use:

msinfo32 /report reportname.txt

It takes a while for the report to run, so be patient. If you run the application with no options, it will bring up a GUI so you can view the information. To view the information of another machine, use:

msinfo32 /computer \computername

If you are like me, then you too are dependent on the functionality of the Show Desktop icon. I typically work with a multitude of applications, and Show Desktop manages to bring order to my desktop instantaneously, letting me streamline a formidable amount of simultaneously opened windows. It's as much an integer part of my workfow as Alt Tab, and I simply could not manage without it. This is why

losing the icon manages to generate a decent amount of headaches. The fact of the matter is that Show Desktop is a unique presence on the Taskbar. Unlike all other icons in Windows Vista, managing Show Desktop is somewhat of a tricky business, long time Windows XP users know what I am talking about.

Well, in comparison to Windows XP, restoring Show Desktop in Windows Vista is less of a problem. All you have to do is know your way around the operating system. But not too much, since the new search functionality in Windows Vista will highlight a compelling result for Show Desktop. So the scenario is as follows: Show Desktop is lost and you are trying to find a solution. Open up an advanced search window, and on the Vista partition look for "Show Desktop". Just make sure to include non-indexed, hidden and system files. Alternatively, you could make your way to the Quick Launch folder in "C:UsersDefaultAppDataRoamingMicrosoftInternet ExplorerQuick Launch."

The 1 KB Show Desktop icon will be in the Quick Launch folder in all its splendor. What to do next? Well, it's rather simple and you have two ways of completing the task of restoring the icon to the Vista taskbar. First, you can copy the shortcut and navigate your way to C:Users and then to the folder with your user name followed by AppDataRoamingMicrosoftInternet ExplorerQuick Launch and paste the icon here. Sounds too complicated? Well, you will also be able to select the icon and drag and drop it on the Quick Launch area on the Vista taskbar.

Now you're probably saying "that's great, but how do I create a batch file?".

That's the easy part.

Just open up Notepad or your favorite text editor.
Copy the commands from above and modify them to use which ever program or Office files you want open. Make sure when you copy file and folder paths that have spaces, to use quotes.
Then save the file with any name and a .bat extension (make sure it's not saved using .txt as the file type extension)

A brief summary of the most commonly used RAID levels (The SNIA Dictionary also contains definitions of the RAID levels that have been vetted by major storage industry players, and is referenced below as applicable):

Level	Description	Minimum # of disks
RAID 0	Striped set without parity/[Non-Redundant Array]. Provides improved performance and additional storage but no fault tolerance. Any disk failure destroys the array, which becomes more likely with more disks in the array. A single disk failure destroys the entire array because when data is written to a RAID 0 drive, the data is broken into fragments. The number of fragments is dictated by the number of disks in the array. The fragments are written to their respective disks simultaneously on the same sector. This allows smaller sections of the entire chunk of data to be read off the drive in parallel, giving this type of arrangement huge bandwidth. RAID 0 does not implement error checking so any error is unrecoverable. More disks in the array means higher bandwidth, but greater risk of data loss. SNIA definition.	2
RAID 1	Mirrored set without parity. Provides fault tolerance from disk errors and failure of all but one of the drives. Increased read performance occurs when using a multi-threaded operating system that supports split seeks, very small performance reduction when writing. Array continues to operate so long as at least one drive is functioning. Using RAID 1 with a separate controller for each disk is sometimes called duplexing. SNIA definition.	2
RAID 2	Redundancy through Hamming code. Disks are synchronised and striped in very small stripes, often in single bytes/words. Hamming codes error correction is calculated across corresponding bits on disks, and is stored on multiple parity disks. SNIA definition	3
RAID 3	Striped set with dedicated parity/Bit interleaved parity. This mechanism provides an improved performance and fault tolerance similar to RAID 5, but with a dedicated parity disk rather than rotated parity stripes. The single parity disk is a bottle-neck for writing since every write requires updating the parity data. One minor benefit is the dedicated parity disk allows the parity drive to fail and operation will continue without parity or performance penalty. SNIA definition	3
RAID 4	Block level parity. Identical to RAID 3, but does block-level striping instead of byte-level striping. In this setup, files can be distributed between multiple disks. Each disk operates independently which allows I/O requests to be performed in parallel, though data transfer speeds can suffer due to the type of parity. The error detection is achieved through dedicated parity and is stored in a separate, single disk unit. SNIA definition	3
RAID 5	Striped set with distributed parity. Distributed parity requires all drives but one to be present to operate; drive failure requires replacement, but the array is not destroyed by a single drive failure. Upon drive failure, any subsequent reads can be calculated from the distributed parity such that the drive failure is masked from the end user. The array will have data loss in the event of a second drive failure and is vulnerable until the data that was on the failed drive is rebuilt onto a replacement drive. SNIA definition	3
RAID 6	Striped set with dual distributed Parity. Provides fault tolerance from two drive failures; array continues to operate with up to two failed drives. This makes larger RAID groups more practical, especially for high availability systems. This becomes increasingly important because large-capacity drives lengthen the time needed to recover from the failure of a single drive. Single parity RAID levels are vulnerable to data loss until the failed drive is rebuilt: the larger the drive, the longer the rebuild will take. Whilst the majority of web applications are hosted on Linux, most developers use Windows. Installing Apache, PHP, and MySQL on your Windows PC is recommended and has become much easier. However, few developers can test their pages in PHP 4 and PHP 5 on the same machine at the same time - but it is possible…

Environment overview

This article will not describe every step in detail, but it should give you enough information to create your own multi-PHP web development environment:

We’ll define the domains http://test/ and http://test4/. Both will navigate to the same php files located in C:\WebPages\

PHP 5 will be installed as an Apache SAPI module and will be used for pages in the domain http://test/.

PHP 4 will be installed as a CGI binary. PHP files will be executed using PHP 4 by changing the domain to http://test4/ or accessing via port 81, e.g. http://test:81/

Note that the latest versions of PHP 5 run very slowly if you use the CGI binary. Defining it as a module solves this issue.

Installation ingredients

The freeware/open source software you’ll need is:

Apache HTTP server for Windows. Stick with version 2.0.x - although 2.2 is available, PHP doesn’t work with it yet.

The latest PHP 4 and PHP 5 Windows binaries. Although installers are available, I’d recommend you download the ZIP packages.

Optionally, a copy of the Windows MySQL database.

A decent text editor - I recommend Notepad++.

Both Apache and MySQL provide Windows installers, so just run them. All going well, you should then be able to navigate to http://localhost/ in your browser.

Extract PHP 4 to C:\php\php4 and PHP 5 to C:\php\php5. Follow the instructions for configuring your php.ini file, but ignore the Apache setup details for now - we’ll cover that below. One setting that may catch you out is extension_dir - for PHP 5 use:
extension_dir = "C:\php\php5\ext"

and for PHP 4 use:
extension_dir = "C:\php\php4\extensions\"

You can now uncomment any extensions you wish to use, e.g. extension=php_mysql.dll in PHP 5’s php.ini.

Windows system setup

Now all the files are in place, we’ll define the local domains test and test4. This is done by editing the hosts file, located in %WINDOWS%/system32/drivers/etc. Add the following lines:
127.0.0.1 test 127.0.0.1 test4

You can update your system using the command ‘nbtstat -R’, but you’ll need a reboot soon so don’t worry about it!

Now go to the Control Panel, open System, click the Advanced tab, and click Environment Variables. In the System variables section, click “Path” in the list followed by Edit. Add “;C:\php\php4;C:\php\php5″ to the end of the Variable value line.

Now reboot to make sure the settings are applied.

Configuring Apache

The Apache configuration file is normally located at %PROGRAMS%\Apache Group\Apache2\conf\httpd.conf You’ll need to locate and edit the following settings.

Set the server to listen on port 80 (the default) and port 81:

Ensure your root folder is set correctly (note the forward slash):
DocumentRoot "C:/WebPages"

Add php files to the directory index, e.g.
DirectoryIndex index.html index.php

Just before the Virtual Hosts section, define PHP 5 as a SAPI module:

Finally, we’ll define the localhost, test, and test4 virtual domain settings for ports 80 and 81. Where PHP 4 is required (test4 domain or port 81), it is defined as a CGI binary that will override the PHP5 module.

You’ll now need to restart Apache. It may be best to use “net stop apache2″ followed by “net start apache2″ on the command line. This will allow you to see any configuration error messages, but several other helpful tools are provided in the Apache program group.

Testing your environment

Create a new file phpinfo.php in C:\WebPages\. Edit the file and add the line:

Save it, then visit the following addresses in your browser:

	Sync your Picasa 3 and Picasa Web Albums edits Tired of having to manually re-upload your photos after making further edits? By enabling 'Sync to Web,' edits made to your photos in Picasa 3 are automatically transferred to your corresponding online albums. You can sync the following changes: Picasa 3 edits (Basic Fixes, Tuning, and Effects) Photos added or deleted in Picasa 3 Captions, tags, or geotags Getting started The Sync to Web button is located on the right side of each folder or album header. When you click this button, you'll first be prompted to upload the photos in that folder or album to Picasa Web Albums. You can change the upload size, album privacy setting, or even add a watermark to your uploaded photos. When the upload is complete, any subsequent Picasa 3 edits to those photos will automatically transfer to your online album. Troubleshooting You can disable the sync feature at any time by clicking the Sync to Web button again, or by selecting Disable Sync in the drop-down menu to the right of the Share button in the folder or album header. All your photos and their edits up to this point remain online, but any new edits and changes will no longer be synchronized. It can also help you to restore old photos with marks, water stains, and scratches to excellent condition. When editing any photo, just click the Retouch button on the 'Basic Fixes' tab. Adjust the size of your brush, and use the mouse scroll wheel to zoom in and out of the photo for precise edits. Click once to highlight the area you'd like to retouch, and then find another portion of the picture that should take the place of your highlighted area. Hover over this replacement area and click a second time.
	Preview image files with Picasa Photo Viewer The photo viewer is a fast, lightweight application for viewing images on your desktop or through Windows Explorer. Installed with Picasa 3, it lets you to take a quick look at images without having to fully open the Picasa 3 program. What you can do with the photo viewer: Add stars, zoom in and out with your mouse scroll wheel, rotate, or proceed to Picasa 3 to make more extensive edits. Upload directly from the photo viewer to Picasa Web Albums or Blogger. Jump right into emailing or printing as well. From your computer desktop or from within Windows Explorer, just double-click any image file to launch the Picasa Photo Viewer. 	Make a movie Combine your photos, videos, and music into a movie, and create a Windows Media file. Share it with friends by uploading it directly to YouTube. Add text slides: Create a title slide or a divider to provide some context. You can choose to include your photo captions as well. When playing any video in Picasa 3, explore these two features: Use the Take Snapshot button to capture a single frame of the video. 	Capture your screen Instantly take and import your screen captures and webcam captures into Picasa 3. Screen captures Press PrtScn to capture a shot of your entire screen. Ctrl+PrtScn will capture the highlighted window. These images will be placed in the 'Screen captures' folder. If you're having trouble importing screen captures, make sure Picasa 3 is open. Screen captures won't be imported if the application is closed. Webcam capture This is webcam importing made simple: Capture video or stills from within Picasa 3, and import them in the same instant. Make sure your webcam is operational, and then click the Webcam Capture button on the top button bar. The Capture tool will let you take and import video and stills. If the Webcam Capture button is inactive, first make sure your webcam is set to go. Then try closing Picasa 3 and opening it back up.
	Add text or watermarks to your photos You can easily personalize your photos using the Watermark and Text tools. Watermarks Help protect your images by stamping a watermark on all images that you export or upload. The watermark signature will be placed in the lower right-hand corner. Upload photos with watermarks Click the Tools menu in Picasa 3, select Options, then click the Web Albums tab. Select the option labeled 'Add a watermark for all uploads.' Type the text for the watermark in the field below the option. Export photos with watermarks When you click the Export button in the Photo Tray, you can select the 'Add a watermark' checkbox to include a watermark on your exported images. Type the text for the watermark in the field below the option. Text Use the Text tool to add text quickly and easily to your photographs; you can even print the result. You can edit the style, size, color, and alignment of the text, as well as drag it to your desired location on the photo. When editing a photo, click the Text button on the 'Basic Fixes' tab to access the tool. Do you want to add the same text to multiple photos? From the main Library view, click the Edit menu and select Copy Text to copy the text you've placed on one photo. Then select Paste text to apply it to all other selected photos. 	Print captions Your captions are about to see a little more action. You can now print your captions or photo file names on or below your photos. Control the style and color of your printed caption, in addition to the width and color of the printed photo border. After you've selected the photos you'd like to print, click the Print button in the Photo Tray. Click the Border and Text Options button to add borders and adjust the style and placement of your printed text. Click Apply to preview your work, and OK to accept the changes.
	Upload easily to Picasa Web Albums Use the Drop Box to hold quick uploads and upload throttling to multi-task during your upload. Drop-box upload The Drop Box is an online album that serves as a holding pen for your quick uploads. Click the Upload to your Web Albums DropBox button located above your photo on the 'Edit Photo' screen to upload a single picture directly to your Picasa Web Albums Drop Box. Upload throttling You can choose to have Picasa 3 reserve some of your Internet bandwidth for surfing the Web while you're doing large uploads to Picasa Web Albums. During your upload, the dialog box will have an option labeled 'Don't eat all my bandwidth.' Just select this checkbox, and then continue multi-tasking.
	Control your Picasa Web Albums settings If you have an online album in Picasa Web Albums, you can now control the online settings through the corresponding folder or album in Picasa 3. There are a few different controls located in the drop-down menu to the right of the Share button in the folder or album header: Adjust the privacy of your online album. Change the online image size. Delete an online album. Sync your edits to your online album. You can also choose to apply 'Sync to Web' to starred photos only. Troubleshooting The button's only available for folders or albums that have been uploaded to Picasa Web Albums. You must be signed in to your Google Account for Picasa Web Albums. You can sign in by clicking Sign in to Web Albums in the upper-right corner of Picasa 3. You will only be able to adjust the online image size if you have enabled 'Sync to Web.'
	Manage folders on your computer It's now possible to move entire folders around on your hard drive from within Picasa 3. From the folder list, right-click the folder you'd like to move, and select Move folder. Choose your desired destination or create a new folder altogether. These moves are permanent on your hard drive, so make sure you properly stow your folders.
	Get more information about your photos We've added new icons and tools to the Library view to quickly communicate useful information about your photos.

SOLUTION FOR Chicony USB 2.0 CAMERA problem in TOSHIBA

A205-S7464 with Windows Vista Home Premium (English)

(be patient with my poor english, please)

The problem was in the .INF file of the camera driver named "casflr.inf". The "ClassGUID" is incorrect to register the driver. We need correct then manually.

The Problem:

1) Windows Vista Home Premium (ENGLISH) installed

2) After install OS, in Control Panel, Device Manager, appears under Another Devices / Chicony USB 2.0 Camera (to install a driver)

3) Trying to install or update the driver by Web doesn't work and trying by browser my computer for device driver.../ Let me pick from a list of device driver... USB Device... etc... doesn't work too.

4) After Installing the last software device driver from Toshiba Support Page:

you have a error message, something like "Camera does not work. Restart camera or computer"...

5) And after you installed the Software Driver from Toshiba, trying update the driver on Device Manager, by browser my computer for device driver.../ Let me pick from a list of device driver... USB Device... choosing one of the Chicony USB 2.0 Camera we have a error message like...

"The Register Class for this device were incorrect" (may be different...)

If you have all this "problems" in sequence... you need to do 3 things. One in Windows Vista Register file, other in .INF file of the camera driver and them update the driver again. It's easy.

The Steps...

1) In Start Search digit "regedt32.exe", run the program to edit register.

2) Find this key below:

Here is the correct class ID to register the device driver for Chicony USB 2.0 Camera. Now we are going to correct it in .INF file. Remember that we had a incorrect class register error message trying to update the driver before.

You need installed the last version of Toshiba Support Software Driver for Chicony USB 2.0 Camera. In my case I download this in:

Will appear 2 or 3 devices to choose, one of these do not have an icon before it and the name is different like "Chicony USB Camera", these is the correct one. Click then! Install it.

An error message of "non sign driver" will appear. Click in Continue.

If a fail message appears, REPEAT THE UPDATE STEPS AGAIN.

Some web developers like to squeeze small html forms into their websites which are uncomfortable to use for the visitors of the website. Imagine a comment form that displays three lines that each can take only a few words. It’s problematic to write a comment of a hundred words or so in that box and nearly impossible to proofread it once you are done.

Text Area Resizer And Mover comes to the rescue; At least for Firefox users. The Firefox extension makes it possible to resize virtually any html form on the Internet. This is done in an uncomplicated manner.

Once a html form has been located that the user wants to resize he simply presses the right-mouse button after moving the mouse into the form. The mouse pointer changes to a resize symbol and the html form can be resized by moving the mouse.

This article demonstrates how easy it is to roll your own PBX in about an hour or two. Provided that the instructions herein are followed carefully, you too should be able to set up your very own switchboard/PBX system and all for the cost of the target hardware of your choice.

What is a PBX and why set one up?
A PBX or “Private Branch Exchange” is like a miniature phone company/switch in your own office/house. The PBX is responsible for making sure calls are routed properly. Situation: when Joe wants to dial Suzy in the office down the hall or downstairs in the TV room, he just picks up the phone in his room/office and dials a local extension just a few digits long. If he wants to call someone across town or around the world, he dials an “outside line” prefix (usually a 9) plus the desired number and the PBX routes his call to the PSTN (Public Switched Telephone Network) just like any other dialed call. Also, if Joe has four teenaged kids, instead of answering their calls and acting as the house receptionist, he can just setup a menu that allows callers to dial the person they want and then needs not be disturbed.

Most people are familiar with PBXs because they’ve used them in an office environment, but what if you wanted to use one in your house? Enter Asterisk.

The beauty of Asterisk (Asterisk.org) is that it is free and offers all this functionality right out of the box. Asterisk is a software implementation of a hardware PBX and can run on a variety of hardware platforms. The features and benefits of owning an Asterisk PBX are numerous, and seemingly only limited by the imagination of the person who sets up and uses an Asterisk PBX. Listed on the project page are just some of the many features that can be implemented. I encourage anyone to explore these features as it will give you some idea for setting up your system in a way that makes it more than worth your while.

Prepare for setting up your PBX
There are many ways of setting up an Asterisk PBX, with some being easier than others. The easiest manner in which to set up a fully functional Asterisk PBX is to download and install a precompiled/tuned distribution such as Trixbox, PBX in a flash, Asterisk NOW, etc. Just take your pick of those. These are great if you don’t care to learn about how your PBX operates or need to do a mindless “click and drool” install. The problem with precompiled asterisk distributions is, while they are simple, they are not as flexible and extensible as a home-brewed Asterisk installation from the source code. When you install one of these “distros”, it is quite often that important decisions are already made for you, and you must work within the framework of the distribution to keep the box “happy”. When you roll your own Asterisk from the sources, you get more say in what goes into the build and how it is customized/extended at the expense of a slightly more complicated planning and installation process. However, it’s not as hard as you might think and it’s quite worth it in the end to “roll your own”.

Asterisk installed from the source code enables you to pick your choice of underlying OS (Debian, Ubuntu, Fedora, Mandrake, SuSE, etc) and also fine tune the installation for your OS environment and your hardware for best possible performance. In this article I will cover the steps needed to install Asterisk for the Ubuntu Linux operating system. This article assumes you know how to do a minimal command line only base system install of Ubuntu Linux. You certainly don’t want to run a GUI on your Asterisk box as it would consume unnecessary resources.

Step 1: prepare a minimal Ubuntu machine, wiht a command line only install

Step 2: download source packages
After you’ve prepared your minimal Ubuntu machine, you will need to download a few source packages from Digium (the maker of Asterisk). Please perform the following steps on your command line as the root user. (NOTE: on Ubuntu systems, the root account password needs to be set in order to login as root) To set your root password, log in as your regular user account you created during installation and type the following commands:

sudo passwd root

when asked for your password enter your regular USER password, hit ENTER, followed by the desired root password and then hit ENTER, confirm the desired password once more and then you’re done.

Logged in as the root user we’ll download the needed packages by running the following script in your terminal screen. If you are familiar with Putty, you can also do this remotely via a windows desktop or SSH into the box as root from any other Linux/Mac machine.

NOTE: we will be using Asterisk 1.4 NOT 1.6 as 1.6 is the unstable release.

You should then see the web GUI and should be able to logon and start creating extensions (users).

If you don’t see the GUI after restarting your PBX, login as root and just start Asterisk by typing asterisk on the command line. You can also set it to start at system boot by adding it to your /etc/rc.local startup script. Also, if you have an account with a VOIP service provider, you can setup your PBX to be the “gateway” to your office/home with ease.

Asterisk is very flexible, scalable, and limitless in its scope of use, so there is no way I can tell you everything that can be done with this amazing piece of software. It’s use is not just limited to communication and phone management and there are thousands of hacks that can be applied to Asterisk. Some of them are:

Home Automation using X10 addressable switches
Remote home/office alarm/lock control
Remote environmental/audio monitoring
Conference Rooms
E-mail reader (text to speech access to any email account)
Remote Dictation
Voice Recognition
Ability to run system commands by phone - Remote Control

Additional Materials
Because of the power and limitless flexibility of Asterisk, there is no available text that comes close to covering the broad scope of this software. The best guide I can recommend is the O’Reilly self-titled book “Asterisk”. That is a good step to begin to understand much of the power available to this platform. I would suggest this as the first guide to begin to learn additional features.

Phones and Extension Types
Asterisk supports any standards based SIP or IAX compatible voip phone. One of the best well known suppliers is www.voipsupply.com and they sell a wide range of voip phones that work with asterisk. Softphones and VOIP ATAs (Analog Telephone Adaptors) are also another way to interface with your Asterisk system. With an ATA you can turn your existing analog corded or cordless phones into VOIP phones. I have an old Western Electric Model 302 from the late 1920s that is now setup as a voip extension and it is a ROTARY phone! NOTE: Not all voip ata units understand pulse dialing, so be sure before you buy if you intend to use a rotary phone for nostalgic purposes. Good deals for voip phones and voip ATAs can be had online at various sites, but don’t overlook the possibilities that may exist at your local swapfest. Near where I live, MIT holds a swapfest during the summer season on the 3rd Sunday of the month and I’ve scored some real bargains there! Look for swapfests in your area, or even check Craig’s List.

Voip Service Providers/PSTN
Asterisk can connect with the world either directly with a voip service provider that allows a “byod” (Bring Your Own Device) plan, or directly with the PSTN (Public Switched Telephone Network) via a Digium interface card. The Digium card is not required to interface with a voip provider over the internet though. Some voip providers that welcome Asterisk (and other devices) are: Broadvoice and Teliax. If you want to interface with Ma Bell, you might be interested in Digium’s line of cards. These can interface with standard POTS PSTN lines and provide outbound calling from extensions on your Asterisk system. Most of these cards feature built-in echo cancellation for best call quality. If you’re a business user, you can connect Asterisk to a T1/E1 or PRI digital telco offering via their digital cards.

Community Support
Asterisk is supported by Digium and the Asterisk Open Source community. There are numerous resources available for the taking on the internet that allow you to extend the flexibility and functionality of your Asterisk PBX. www.voip-info.org is one of many public voip forums where a wealth of information is available. Available resources can be anything from example configurations, scripts, feature enhancements, function modules, advice, and troubleshooting.

The intended purpose of this feature was to simplify a nice and lean sourcecode installation of Asterisk onto a pupular Ubuntu (or any other Linux) host system and to ease the new user or experimenter in wading into a huge pool of possibilities that are only limited by the imagination of the user. Takeaway: Changing the permissions on files or folders for multiple users and groups can be a major administrative nuisance. Luckily, the Windows command-line tool Cacls.exe can help, especially when used in batch files.

Cacls.exe is a Windows NT/2000/XP command-line tool you can use to assign, display, or modify ACLs (access control lists) to files or folders. Cacls is an interactive tool, and since it's a command-line utility, you can also use it in batch files. I first used Cacls in a batch file as part of a new user creation process and found it quite useful. You can also use Cacls in conjunction with other command-line tools. Used with other administration tools, Cacls will make it much easier to handle administrative tasks performed in large environments.

As a companion to this article, I created a Cacls reference guide you can download. It contains explanations of parameters, related resource links, and usage scenarios.

Working with Cacls
The usage of Cacls is from the command line for single tasks or within a batch file for multiple operations. The default location of Cacls.exe is in the %SystemRoot%\System32 folder for all installations of Windows NT, 2000, and XP and requires the NTFS file system.

Cacls usage is similar across all Windows versions, which eases the learning curve across new releases of Windows. To see the Cacls options, start a command prompt, and type cacls. This will show a list of options and parameters. The simplest operation that Cacls can perform is to display the ACLs of a file or folder with a command such as:
cacls c:\folder\file.txt

Cacls also allows for the use of wildcards, variables, and multiple permissions or users per line. Cacls' rich feature set gives you some powerful configuration options. Table A shows the operations Cacls can perform, along with the corresponding option flags.

Windows 2000 and XP also provide three new descriptive display objects to the Cacls listing. These describe the inheritance attributes of Active Directory objects. For example, Figure A shows the results of the command cacls C:\xfer\user-1. This displays the ACLs for this sample user directory.

Using Cacls in batch files
One of Cacls' administrative benefits is that you can pass it %1 variables when used in batch files. This can make Cacls an integral part of a large user administration process. To highlight this feature, let's run through an example that will perform the following:

Display the ACLs for a folder and its subfolders
Grant a Change/Write ACL for the primary user of the folder and a Read ACL for another user
Revoke an ACL for a different user to the same folder

The bat file (test-variable-pass.bat) will look like this:

From the command prompt, I ran:

For a fancier situation, I could put a> c:\dump.txt at the end of the command prompt entry to pipe the results to a text file for review later. This is handy for searches on large operations. Of course, the %1 variable is not the only variable I could specify for use with this bat file. You can use any number of variables.

Limitations and workarounds
Cacls is a powerful tool for administering your ACLs, but you should be aware of a few quirks. Let’s take a look at some of these situations.

Answering the Y/N prompts automatically
When using the grant (/g) option, Cacls does not provide a way to answer Y or N within the parameters. The workaround is to use the resource kit tool XCacls (explained in the Cacls reference sheet available for download), which has an option to bypass the confirmation prompt. Another option is to place an echo y| or echo n before the Cacls command requiring the Y/N within your bat file.

Cacls (and XCacls) should be local
You can run Cacls from one computer to another, but it may not always work. A better practice is to perform Cacls operations at the computer in question or through a terminal service. For example, I can run a Cacls grant (/g) command from one computer to a resource on a remote computer over the network, and it will accept the ACL entry for a nonexistent account without error. Figure B shows where the 2kas.txt ACLs are displayed before and after the remote Cacls execution. (Notice the Account Domain not found message.)

Special file access right assignments
The Cacls tool limits ACL assignments to Read, Write and Change (which are the same), Full Control, or None. The special rights are: change permissions, take ownership, execute, and delete. These aren't available with Cacls, but the XCacls tool can address this limitation.

Current folder and subfolders
When using the option /t, be prepared to wait. As you may be used to from the Windows NT GUI, rewriting the ACLs in Windows Explorer using the Replace Permissions On Subdirectories option can take a while. Windows 2000 and newer Windows versions support an automatic propagation of inheritable Access Control Entries (ACEs). But if you use Cacls with the /t option, recursion will occur and it will take some time.

Open or locked files
Cacls cannot display or modify the ACL state of files locked in exclusive use.

Be careful
If you are giving Cacls or XCacls a test drive, beware that you may lock users or yourself out of a file, folder, or drive. Thus, thorough testing and experimenting on a test network system is a good idea.

Summary
Cacls is a powerful tool that can help manage your ACLs. You can also use it in batch files, which is particularly useful in large environments. Utilizing Cacls or XCacls in conjunction with other Windows administration tools can make management of large numbers of user accounts much easier.

First off, what is the Blogger Navbar?
The Blogger Navbar appears by default at the top of every Blogger-powered blog. It is available in several colors, and is configured in the Template tab in Blogger’s interface. If you are using a classic template, you’ll see a menu from which you can select a color. For blogs using Layouts, just click the “edit” link on the Navbar page element. Blogger gives a more detailed explanation of this here.

There are several reasons why I think it’s important to remove the Blogger nav bar but I’ll name my two most important reasons. First one being that it’s an eye sore and makes your blog look less professional. Secondly, when you click on the “next blog” button you never know what type of blog you might stumble upon. There are so many spam blogs with adult content or other information you don’t want young people to read. When you do block the navbar on your own blog, you prevent others from also easily leaving your site and accidentally heading to one of these spam sites.

Unfortunately Blogger doesn’t give you the option to remove the navbar easily but this simple modification to your template allows us to hide it. The good news is that it’s not against Blogger’s TOS so it’s not illegal to do. I read a post recently by Blogger Support that stated

While it’s not officially against our TOS, we discourage folks from removing it because we think it’s a great feature with more improvements to come. Follow the above instructions at your own peril, as Blogger controls the TOS and has been known to change it.

So the change you want to make is to the stylesheet. First make sure you backup your current template just in case you make a mistake. Click on the “Download Full Template” link ( go to “Template” => “Edit HTML”) and save it locally. Next, from within your template code you want to scroll down until you find ]]> and stop. Then you’ll want to add this line of code right above this line.

So once you’re done, it should look like this:

Introduction

In my view, one of the minuses of Google Analytics (GA) is the difficulty of excluding our own traffic (aka internal traffic) from the reports. As per this help article, there are two methods of achieving this. One is to set up a filter to exclude traffic from a given IP address or a range of addresses. This method is undesirable if you are using a connection that assigns dynamic addresses for each session.

The other method is to filter using a cookie installed in your browser. This method is more reliable and safer than using the first method. But the caveat is installing the cookie as it is not straight forward. And the second method described in the help page is flawed according to this discussion.

The Steps

Here are the tried and tested steps to exclude your traffic from GA.

1) Open your template in the Edit HTML mode and scroll right to the end where your tracking code is installed. Locate the script shown below and add the line shown in red.

Replace the variable passed to the _setVar() function with something applicable to you. The string you provide here ("exclude_ids_bguide" in this case) is called the filter pattern and it will be used later when we create the filter.

2) Save the template and visit your blog from all the browsers that you want this cookie installed. For example, if you are using Firefox and IE, visit your blog's homepage from both the browsers. If the page is already loaded, make sure that you do a page refresh.

The next step is VERY IMPORTANT!

3) Go back immediately and remove the line added (i.e. the line shown in red) in step (1), from your blog template and save it again. The sight of someone scrolling through hundreds of email messages trying to find a specific one is like fingers on a chalkboard for me. With a few tricks, you can use Gmail to find the exact message you're looking for, without all the scrolling.

If you don't get a ton of mail, just typing in the words you're looking for usually does the trick. I can just type lisa in the search box and get all of the messages from my friend Lisa, southwest to bring up my ticket confirmations, or "bank statement" to help get my finances in order.

But the real power of Gmail search lies in search operators -- words that help modify your queries. Search operators work pretty much the same way within Gmail as they do for Google. So, if I want the email Lisa sent me with her flight information so I know when to pick her up at the airport, I type from:lisa SFO. Likewise:

A link from my co-worker Michael: from:michael http
A photo from my mom: from:mom has:attachment
That last chat I had with one of the Gmail product managers: keith is:chat
All messages from ebay that aren't outbid notices: ebay -outbid (the hyphen tells Gmail to return all of the messages that don't contain the word that follows it)

You can limit the scope of your search to a particular subject (subject:) or label (label:) as well. And you can get pretty fancy. Recently, I was trying to remember the date of my friend's April birthday. I always send her a birthday email, so I searched to:maya (birthday OR bday) after:2007/4/1 before:2007/5/1. It's the 19th.

If remembering operators isn't really your thing, that's ok. There's a "Show search options" link to the right of the search bar at the top of your inbox.

Clicking that provides you with text fields you can fill in to get the precision of advanced search. Start there, but after a while you'll probably find that using operators is a lot faster.

Google Analytics may be free, but it is still based on proprietary technology - which means you only ever get reports on the things that Google thinks are necessary and some of those reports are aimed at people using Google's other services (managing campaigns on AdWords, for example). Further, using Google Analytics means that you're tied to Google's TOS. Enter Piwik, which aims to be an open source alternative to Google Analytics. It is closely affiliated with OpenX, the open source ad server alternative to Google Ad Manager [Ed: which we just started using on RWW].

While OpenX has been around a while and has good traction, Piwik is fairly new and under the radar. It surfaced first as PHPMyVisites and is only at version 0.1.5, which is a sign that it is still for the highly committed.

Piwik originates from France and almost all the attention so far has been from outside USA. It seems to be catching on in Japan and China, as well as in Europe. The team responsible for Piwik seems to be made up of interns from big companies such as Amazon, Intel and even Google.

You need PHP and MySQL to use Piwik, which is no problem for techies but any widespread adoption will need a hosted version. Some entrepreneur is likely to offer that. Plug-ins to WordPress and other blogging platforms will also be needed, but cannot be that hard.

Open source products usually get traction, even when they are raw, when the alternative is too expensive or restrictive. Google Analytics is free, so it is hard to see rapid adoption by bloggers and small media companies. It is possible that Piwik will get better traction in companies that already use one of the expensive web analytics services from companies such as Coremetrics, Omniture and Visual Sciences/Websidestory.

Larger companies may have some pause for concern before switching to Google Analytics, because of the service's Terms of Service. An analyst in the IT department is likely to point out two clauses (yes big companies DO read this stuff):

"2. FEES AND SERVICES . Subject to Section 15 herein, the Service is provided without charge to You for up to 5 million pageviews per month per account, and if You have an active Adwords campaign in good standing, the Service is provided without charge to You without a pageview limitation.

Google may change its fees and payment policies for the Service from time to time including but not limited to the addition of costs for geographic data, the importing of cost data from search engines, or other fees charged to Google or its wholly-owned subsidiaries by 3rd party vendors for the inclusion of data in the Service reports."

So, don't go above 5 million page views without paying something to Google via AdWords. That may make one a bit uneasy, but it is the "Google may change its fees and payment policies" that will have both IT and Legal aiming to nix the deal.

Then a bit later on you get:

"6. INFORMATION RIGHTS AND PUBLICITY . Google and its wholly owned subsidiaries may retain and use, subject to the terms of its Privacy Policy (located at http://www.google.com/privacy.html , or such other URL as Google may provide from time to time), information collected in Your use of the Service. Google will not share information associated with You or your Site with any third parties unless Google (i) has Your consent; (ii) concludes that it is required by law or has a good faith belief that access, preservation or disclosure of such information is reasonably necessary to protect the rights, property or safety of Google, its users or the public; or (iii) provides such information in certain limited circumstances to third parties to carry out tasks on Google's behalf (e.g., billing or data storage) with strict restrictions that prevent the data from being used or shared except as directed by Google . When this is done, it is subject to agreements that oblige those parties to process such information only on Google's instructions and in compliance with this Agreement and appropriate confidentiality and security measures."

In short, they have the right to use your data. We have lived for a long time in a world where Microsoft and others charged for the software and kept it under a tight IP control, but did not try to take any use of the data. Google reversed that. Google is happy to let you use anything for free, as long as they get to use your data. That is OK for most individuals and small businesses, but totally unacceptable for large companies.

Piwik is working hard to be developer-friendly, not just relying on open source. They claim 4 big advantages:

Open API
Plug in architecture
Data abstraction layer
Customizable dashboard

But the nub of the issue for most big companies will be the data ownership issue. That is why Piwik is really a Google Analytics alternative, even if they will see few firms switching from GA initially. IT groups, under pressure to cut costs, will look at Google Analytics as an alternative to their current analytics software and reject the option based on TOS restrictions. Then some bright spark will Google the term "open source alternative google analytics" and see Piwik on top of the organic listings.

Set Gmail as your default email client in Firefox 3

For those of you using newly released Firefox 3, or willing to give it a try, you can take advantage of a new feature that lets you set Gmail as the default for all email links -- those that contain "mailto:" in them. If you're like me and don't have a default email client set up, then clicking these links typically launches an installation wizard for a destkop mail client, or opens some email software that you don't actually use.

Now you can configure Firefox to launch Gmail when you click on email address links and avoid the hassle. The folks over at Lifehacker published these tips on how to set it up:

1) Go to Gmail and sign in.

2) While in Gmail, copy and paste the following into your browser's address bar and hit enter.

There's a drop down next to the option that lets you change your default. Clicking "Application details" will take you to a settings page where you can completely remove Gmail or other mail apps.

¹If nothing happens when you type in the code, double check that you copied the entire snippet correctly, and if nothing happens, you probably changed an advanced setting (maybe without even knowing) and need to set it back to default. Gmail's IMAP support roll-out this week had nerds all atwitter about the possibility of synchronized email access across devices, computers, and clients. IMAP is far superior to regular old POP for fetching your messages and maintaining your folder list whether you're on your iPhone, office or home computer. If IMAP's got you curious but you're not sure what desktop application to use with Gmail, consider the extensible, fast, cross-platform and free Mozilla Thunderbird, our beloved Firefox's little sibling. Here's how to get the full Gmail experience in Thunderbird with IMAP.

What's IMAP?

Internet Message Access Protocol (Wikipedia page) enables email programs to read messages stored on the server. Unlike POP, with IMAP it's as if you're browsing a network drive of files on a remote server with an open, live connection to that server; whenever you open a folder or view a message, it's displayed from that server live. IMAP maintains a constant connection with your server and updates real-time.

Why is IMAP better than POP?

POP downloads and copies new messages to your local inbox. With POP you can download once and disconnect from the server, which is its one advantage. But you cannot download messages that have already been archived and labeled in Gmail via POP, and your client has to poll the server to get new messages. With POP access, if you move a message to a folder or star it in your desktop client, that change is not reflected in Gmail and your messages get out of sync. Any rules or mail filters you set up on one machine with a POP client have to be set up and reprocessed with a fresh download on all your other machines.

Think of POP as copying files from a server to your computer and working with them on your hard drive. Think of IMAP as connecting to a remote server and working with the files saved there.

Why Thunderbird (and not Mail or Outlook)?

We're naturally biased towards open source software here at Lifehacker, but there are good reasons why Thunderbird is the best desktop client choice out there for Gmail IMAP access:

It's extensible. Like Firefox, a wide variety of optional Thunderbird extensions can add features and functionality other clients only dream about.
It's free and cross-platform. You work on a Mac? PC? Linux desktop? Unlike Mail.app or the various flavors of Outlook, Thunderbird just works everywhere. Plus, there's a handy portable version that can run from your thumb drive, too.

Set up Thunderbird correctly for Gmail IMAP

First things first. Once you're fetching your email via IMAP with Thunderbird (here's Google's tutorial on how to do that), there are two settings you'll want to set manually: specifically, where Thunderbird should store sent messages and drafts. In your IMAP account settings, the Copies & Folders area, be sure to change the default location for Sent and Drafts to [Gmail]/Sent Mail and [Gmail]/Drafts respectively, as shown.

Even after you do this, you'll notice a few strange labels in your Gmail account: [Imap]/Sent, [Imap]/Drafts and [Imap]/Trash. These are Thunderbird's default Sent, Drafts, and Trash folders. Once you make the change to your account settings, you can delete those labels in Gmail and they won't get regenerated. (Note: except for [Imap]/Trash, which I can't rid myself of entirely, since T-bird seems married to it. Bueller? Update: see the next section for the solution to the [Imap]/Trash label.)

Set Thunderbird to use Gmail's Trash folder (UPDATE)

Reader Vanl explains how to set T-bird's trash folder correctly, which involves some Thunderbird configuration editing. Here's how:

From the Tools menu, choose Options.
Go to the "Advanced" Option menu and the "General" tab. Hit the "Config Editor" button next to the "Advanced Configuration" label.
Now you need to look around in there a bit to find which server you need to modify. Using the filter entry box at the top, type in mail.server.server and you will see a list of keys and values. One of those keys will be mail.server.serverX.name, where X is a number and the value is the name of your Gmail IMAP account. Remember X.
Right-click somewhere in the box and select New->String.
A dialog box will pop up asking for the name of your new key. Put in mail.server.serverX.trash_folder_name, where X is the number you remember from above. (For example, mine is mail.server.server2.trash_folder_name.)
A new box will come up asking for the value of your new key. Put in [Gmail]/Trash.
Go to Gmail's web interface and delete the label [Imap]/Trash.
Restart Thunderbird.

UPDATE 2, Nov 8th: A Gmail IMAP engineer writes in with more information about the implications of the Trash tweak:

Using the [Gmail]/Trash as your Trash folder can lead to some unexpected issues, and the Gmail team doesn't recommend it.
Our recommended client settings page doesn't go far enough to explain why this can be an issue. The problem is that gmail only keeps a single copy of a message with multiple labels. If you apply the Trash label by placing the message in the [Gmail]/Trash folder, you are telling GMail to remove the message from all labels, and GMail will also delete the message in 30 days.

If for some reason you actually expect the message to be in multiple folders, and you delete it from one thinking that only removes it from that folder, if you set your Trash to [Gmail]/Trash, you will mistakenly remove the message from both folders.

So, suppose you have a filter set up to keep a copy of every message in another label/folder, and you normally just go through your inbox in Thunderbird deleting every message, knowing you have a copy saved in another folder, you will be actually deleting both copies. Or maybe you think you are relying on the automatic "second copy" that Gmail has in the "[Gmail]/All Mail" folder: again, moving a message to the Trash will remove it from there as well.

Or, perhaps you mistakenly "copied" a message to another folder, instead of "moving" it, so you then "delete" the copy that was left behind: this will actually delete the message from both places.

In short: If you're using Gmail's Trash folder, expect that all copies of any message you put there will be deleted, not just the one you move there.

How Thunderbird actions map to Gmail

Before we move into Thunderbird tweaks and add-ons, check out this chart of what actions in your client will do in web-based Gmail, courtesy of Google.

Note that Gmail labels do NOT map to Thunderbird's tags. Each label is represented by an old school folder in Thunderbird. If a message has more than one label, it will appear in multiple folders, which is very cool. To label a message in Thunderbird, move it to the appropriate folder. To create a new label in Gmail, create a new folder in Thunderbird, and so forth.

Subfolders and Slash Labels

If you move a message into a subfolder of a folder in Thunderbird, over in web-based Gmail you'll see a label named parent folder/child folder. Conversely, any labels with forward slashes in them will create subfolders in T-bird. You Folders4Gmail users in Better Gmail may absolutely love this. (Note: the Folders4Gmail script has been updated to support the IMAP forward slash as well as a backslash; Better Gmail to follow very soon. Thanks, Sean!)

Combine Gmail's Spam-killer with Thunderbird's Adaptive Junk Filter

Along the same lines as setting the Sent and Drafts folders to align above, if you enable Thunderbird's Junk filter, make sure it moves junk mail to Gmail's Spam folder so that Gmail marks it as spam as well. That way the bird's adaptive filter can teach Gmail as it learns. Here's that setting:

Get Gmail Goodness in Thunderbird

Thunderbird has a few features built-in or easily added that are similar or match Gmail web-based functionality in a rich desktop app. Like:

Threaded conversation view. Ok, so it's not quite as nice as Gmail's web-based implementation, but you can view messages by thread. Click on the tiny "display message threads" button to see replies in a hierarchical order in Thunderbird. Image by Digg user D14BL0. Here are the results:

Collapse the thread by hitting the - sign, and new replies to a message won't create a whole new line in the list.
Gmail search operators and keyboard shortcuts. The GMailUI Thunderbird extension adds Gmail keyboard shortcuts (like y to archive, j/k to move up and down the message list), and Gmail advanced search operators to Thunderbird's search box (like subject:hi from:gidget.)
Set the y key to move messages to your [Gmail]/All Mail folder, which will archive messages in Gmail.

There are other Thunderbird keyboard shortcut extensions (I'm also partial to TB Quick Move) but nothing as elegant as Gmail Macros on the web side for you Greasemonkey or Better Gmail users. Let us know if you've got a better alternative.

Enjoy Thunderbird-Specific Features

Getting your Gmail in Thunderbird via IMAP means you get T-bird-specific happiness too, like:

Sorting messages by size. Anyone who's had a nearly-full Gmail account knows the tedious, manual process that is freeing up space. In Thunderbird, you can do the one thing Google wouldn't let you do in Gmail: Sort your messages by size, so you can target the space hogs. To do so, hit the small button on the right-most side of the column header list, and select Size to show message sizes. Then click the Size header to sort ascending or descending, and delete the hefty messages directly from Thunderbird. Thanks, Vsack!
Drag and drop message import. Want to bring old email from other accounts into Gmail? While connected via IMAP, drag other messages stored in Thunderbird to your Gmail folders, for instant import with all the old message headers intact. Reply before or after the quote. You need a Firefox extension like Better Gmail to do this in web-based Gmail, but in Thunderbird you can easily set whether you want your replies to appear above or below quoted text, as shown in your account preferences:
You can also automatically select the entire quote for easy chopping up in your reply, and set whether your signature appears above or below your quote.
Better multiple identity and signature management. Set up multiple "identities" in Thunderbird with email address-specific signatures, which you can't do in web-based Gmail. Hit the "Manage Identities" button in your Account Preferences dialog. The various identities you choose will be available as a dropdown in the From: field in new messages, just like in web-based Gmail. You can also create and automatically attach a vCard to your outgoing messages on a per-identity basis with T-bird, and choose to compose your messages as HTML or plain text per identity, too. Better filters. Gmail's filtering mechanism and interface is OK, but Thunderbird's is better. Case in point: you can specify in what order filters should be applied to incoming messages. Check out our essential email filters for ideas.

DelAge32 is a command line tool that deletes or moves files by age (number of days).

The age is calculated as date difference at local time. By default the "last modified" file stamp is taken to calculate the age (see options /created, /modified and the note about file stamps).

Syntax:	DelAge32 filespec days [options]
Examples:	DelAge32 C:\some\where\. 100 /recurse DelAge32 there\.tmp 1 /created /includeRO Delage32 .zip 35
filespec	File name search pattern (wildcards) with full or relative path.
days	Number of days: minimum age of files to delete or move
options	Options begin with a slash, case ignored. All command arguments must be separated by blank space!
/preview	The files will not be deleted, but only listed with age.
/created	The "created" time stamp is taken to calculate the age. Default is the "last modified" stamp. See note about file stamps (below)
/modified	The "last modified" time stamp is taken to calculate the age. This is the default. However, when used in conjunction with the /created option, the most recent one of these two stamps is taken.
/accessed	The "last access" time stamp is taken to calculate the age.
/includeRO	Include files with Read-Only attribute
/includeH	Include files with Hidden attribute (system files always remain untouched)
/recurse	Recurse through the entire subdirectory structure (see /rd option to remove empty directories)
/subonly	Recurse, but exclude the initial directory
/rd	Remove emptied directories by age (according to "created" stamp); will not remove directories that have already been empty.
/move target	Move files instead of deleting; specify target directory. This works across drives. Note: If a target file exists, it will be overwritten without warning!
/quiet	No output (makes no sense with the /preview option). By default all deleted or moved files are listed with age (number of days). Output can be redirected to a file (OEM format).

In case of any syntax errors the program will take no action.
Maximum length of fully expanded paths: 260 bytes.

Errorlevels:	0: successful, even if no files have qualified 1: invalid path, 255: syntax error
Failed operations:	If there are any files that could not be deleted or moved, the output line will be marked with * failed *.

Note about file stamps:

Usually you would not expect that a file has been "modified" before it was "created".
However, when a file is copied, for example, the new copy is "created" at the current date (obviously), whereas the "last modified" stamp is taken from the original file, because it is supposed to refer to the contents - not the physical file.

Understanding Disconnected Mailboxes

In Microsoft Exchange Server 2007, each mailbox consists of an Active Directory directory service user and the mailbox data that is stored in the Exchange mailbox database. (For an illustration of the components of a mailbox, see Figure 1.) All configuration data for a mailbox is stored in the Exchange attributes of the Active Directory user object. The mailbox database contains the mail data that is in the mailbox associated with the user account.

Important:
When you create a mailbox for a new or existing user, the Exchange attributes that are required for a mailbox are added to the user object in Active Directory. The associated mailbox object in the Exchange mailbox database is not created until the mailbox either receives a message or the user logs on to it. If you create a new mailbox, and then remove or disable that mailbox before the mailbox object in the Exchange mailbox database is created, it will not be available as a disconnected mailbox.

Important:

When you create a mailbox for a new or existing user, the Exchange attributes that are required for a mailbox are added to the user object in Active Directory. The associated mailbox object in the Exchange mailbox database is not created until the mailbox either receives a message or the user logs on to it. A disconnected mailbox is a mailbox object in an Exchange mailbox database that is not associated with an Active Directory user account. When you remove or disable a mailbox, the data that is stored in the Exchange mailbox database is no longer associated with the user account in Active Directory and becomes a disconnected mailbox.

Caution:
If you remove a mailbox, the mailbox data that is stored in the Exchange mailbox database is marked for deletion and the associated user account is also deleted from Active Directory. To retain the user account and only disassociate the mailbox data from the user account, you must disable the mailbox. For detailed instructions, see How to Disable a Mailbox.

To provide a method for recovering mailbox data without having to restore the entire mailbox database, disconnected mailboxes are retained in the mailbox database for a specific amount of time. By default, Exchange retains a disconnected mailbox for 30 days. During this time, the disconnected mailbox can be recovered by associating it with an existing Active Directory user account. Working with Disconnected Mailboxes

There are two operations you can perform on a disconnected mailbox:

Connect it to an existing user account in Active Directory
Permanently delete it from the Exchange mailbox database

Connecting a Disconnected Mailbox

During the time a disconnected mailbox is retained in the Exchange mailbox database, you can connect it to an existing Active Directory user account that is not associated with another mailbox. Scenarios in which you may want to connect a mailbox include the following:

You disabled a mailbox and now want to reconnect the mailbox to an Active Directory user account.
You removed a mailbox by using the Remove-Mailbox cmdlet without the Permanent or StoreMailboxIdentity parameters and now want to reconnect the mailbox to a different Active Directory user account.
You want to convert a user mailbox to a linked mailbox that is associated with a user account external to the forest in which your Exchange organization exists. The resource forest scenario is an example of when you would want to associate a mailbox with an external account. In a resource forest scenario, user objects in the Exchange forest have mailboxes, but the user objects are disabled for logon. You must associate these mailbox objects in the Exchange forest with enabled user objects in the external accounts forest.

You can use the Connect-Mailbox cmdlet in the Exchange Management Shell or the Connect Mailbox wizard in the Exchange Management Console to connect a mailbox. The Connect Mailbox wizard is available from the action pane when you select the Disconnected Mailbox node under Recipient Configuration. For detailed instructions about how to connect a disconnected mailbox, see How to Connect a Mailbox.

After you connect a mailbox to an existing Active Directory user account, that user account becomes the owner of the mailbox and has full access to any content within the mailbox.

Permanently Deleting a Disconnected Mailbox

Exchange retains disconnected mailboxes in the mailbox database based on the deleted mailbox retention settings configured for that mailbox database. After the specified retention period, a disconnected mailbox is permanently deleted from the Exchange mailbox database.

You can also permanently delete a disconnected mailbox at any time by using the Remove-Mailbox cmdlet in the Exchange Management Shell. To do this, you need to set the Permanent parameter to $true when you run the command.

If you want to permanently delete the data within the mailbox database for a previously disconnected mailbox, you must use the StoreMailboxIdentity parameter with the Remove-Mailbox cmdlet. You can use the Get-MailboxStatistics cmdlet to determine the value you need to supply to the StoreMailboxIdentity parameter for a disconnected mailbox. Problem
When carrying out any one of many actions on your board you may find your self getting errors such as the one in this example error.

Field 'forum_last_post_subject' doesn't have a default value [1364]

This can happen on any one or multiple database columns in the database so the column mentioned in the error could vary but the problem is very likely the same.

Cause
This is usually a result of the database being upgraded. For example from MySQL 3.0.x or 4.0.x to 4.1.x or 5.x, quite often the web host will do such an upgrade without warning.

The problem is that the schema of the databases in older versions will not work correctly in newer versions without various things being changed. The result of such an upgrade without fixing the database schema is the above mentioned error.

This issue has become more common on the support forums recently and more importantly many people have been incorrectly submitting this as a phpBB bug. As a result the Development team decided it would be in their best interests to address the problem. Thus they produced a script which could be executed producing a set of SQL queries to correct the database schema.

The Fix

Make complete backups of the boards database before executing any queries this script provides.
Please make sure that you are running the latest version of phpBB3 and then download
- For 3.0.1 mysql_upgrader.php
- For version 3.0.0 use this copy
- For versionsRC 6/7, use this copy
Extract the compressed archive to your desktop.
Open the file in a plain text editor and read the instructions at the top of the extracted file and act accordingly.
Use your ftp client to upload the mysql_upgrader.php into the board root. This is the same location as the boards config.php.
Browse to this file in your web browser via its URI. So using the phpBB.com board as an example you would browse to

This will cause the script to scan your database and then provide the correct schema for you MySQL version. As such it will output a list of SQL queries which can
- Be run all in one go via phpmyadmin

Now use your ftp client to remove the files mysql_upgrader.php from your board root.
